Tree of Knowledge International Corp. (CSE: TOKI; OTC: TRKWF) has named Jean-Paul Gaillard as its new chief executive officer. Gaillard is Nespresso’s former CEO and Global Consumer Brands Expert.
Gaillard’s appointment is in line with TOK’s goal of bringing in top-level executives from reputable firms.
Gaillard boasts an extensive corporate management experience, including six years in operational positions in the United States. His main focus is general management, finance and profit center responsibility, and marketing. He also has experience in managing strategic change and special situations.
He has worked with major multi-national companies like Nestlé and Philip Morris Companies. He has also worked with medium-sized firms specializing in industrial products, as well as in fast-moving consumer goods.
Gaillard is most noted for the international expansion of the Marlboro Classics brand for Philip Morris. He turned the Marlboro Classics brand into a leader in its field, and at par with its most successful competitors in the tobacco manufacturing industry.
Gaillard is also known for turning around Nespresso for the Nestlé Group. When Nestlé decided to close its Nespresso branch down after unsuccessfully attempting to succeed in the market several times, he took over as CEO and implemented an entirely new business model outside of Nestlé’s established structure. He also created the Nespresso Club.
Moreover, Gaillard oversaw the development of an international group of companies. He also oversaw all negotiations and key agreements with Nestlé’s machine partners. His efforts were instrumental in making Nespresso’s new business model into the global success it continues to be up until now.
Under Gaillard’s leadership, Nespresso was able to achieve and generate a multibillion turnover, with some of the food and beverage industry’s highest margins and ROIC. Also, from a company composed of less than 10 people, Nespresso became a multinational group with global presence and excellent growth.
Gaillard then became CEO of Moevenpick Foods, wherein he oversaw the reorganization of its Food Division and Unilever’s acquisition of its Ben & Jerry’s brand. Nestlé subsequently acquired Moevenpick Ice Cream. He also played key roles in the sale of Ebel to the Movado Group and in Pilatus Aircraft company’s change of ownership.
Gaillard was also the founder, chairman and CEO of Ethical Coffee Company S.A., the first and sole manufacturer of biodegradable coffee capsules, which are compatible with Nespresso machines.
Currently, Gaillard is the chairman of Coventry Holding Group, which specializes in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and special situations.
Gaillard studied in Switzerland, England, and the United States, including two years in law and engineering. He also studied Business and Administration at the International Institute for Management Development (SSE – Senior Level) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and at University of California, Los Angeles.
TOK’s previous CEO, Michael Caridi, will remain as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
According to Caridi, the addition of Gaillard with his significant consumer goods and global brands experience will be very beneficial to TOK as they move forward with their goal of becoming the leading global cannabis brand. Caridi said that Gaillard is an exciting addition to their executive leadership team, thanks to his demonstrated leadership abilities, his M&A and financing expertise, and his vision for developing and launching new products.
Caridi also acknowledged Gaillard’s remarkable track record for building global brands. He said that they are excited to have Gaillard join their team.
