People are currently buying CBD oil and other CBD products. But they really have no idea just how much CBD content these products have. This is dangerous because you might not be getting the right amount of CBD into your body.
There are two scenarios that could happen. You might be getting a lower dosage than what you need, which would mean that you would not get the intended effect that you are looking for. If you are suffering from pain, for example, you may not feel the relief that you are looking for. In some cases, instead of being completely pain-free, you might feel more than just a little discomfort.
Or, you might be using too much of the CBD oil or product, which is quite honestly, wasteful, given that CBD oils can cost up to 20 cents per milligram.
To avoid these scenarios, you should know how much CBD content is present in a product. First things first, you should know if the product you are looking for is a pure CBD extract. If that is that case, then every drop of it contains CBD. One milliliter of pure CBD oil has one milligram of CBD. The problem comes in when you are looking for a product that has been mixed with other ingredients. One milliliter of this kind of product would not have one milligram of CBD, because the CBD oil is already diluted.
Adding to the confusion is that some products use a percentage to indicate how much CBD content is found in it. Others use milligrams and milliliters. These are two completely different ways to state CBD content.
To illustrate this point clearly, remember that to make CBD oil suitable for vaping, manufacturers would need to add some thinners to it to make it less viscous. There is no pure CBD vape oil. Let’s say that there is a wholesaler out there that is selling diluted CBD vape oil to two different retailers, Retailer A and Retailer B.
Retailer A comes up with his or her own label that says that the CBD vape oil has 0.5% CBD. Retailer B, on the other hand, says that the oil has 10 milligrams of CBD. Which one is right?
Both of them. If you are confused, then it helps to know how each is calculated.
CBD content in milligrams
This one is easy. Expressing CBD content in milligrams is pretty straightforward. Imagine that you are baking a cake and the recipe calls for four eggs. Therefore, the cake contains four eggs in it.
When you see a CBD product that says it has 100 milligrams of CBD, then the whole bottle would have 100 milligrams of CBD.
Going back to our vape oil example, the entire bottle of vape oil could contain 50 milliliters of CBD vape oil. But if the manufacturer put 100 milligrams of CBD in the vape oil to make that 50 ml bottle, then the vape oil has a CBD content of 100 milligrams.
So if you liken the vape oil to the cake and the CBD to the eggs, it does not matter how big or small the cake is, you could only say that it has four eggs in it.
But even in this instance, you might be confused by the shift in the units of measurement. You use milligrams to measure weight, while you use milliliters to measure the capacity of the bottle. The CBD is weighed by milligrams and added to the vape oil. When the vape oil is put into bottles, milliliter is used.
This is especially important in medicine and CBD oils. To be clearer, some manufacturers even specify CBD content as in mg/ml, or how many milligrams of CBD is present in one milliliter of the oil.
CBD content in percentage
Some manufacturers and retailers, however, prefer to use percentages rather than the mg/ml. In our example, the 50 ml bottle of CBD vape oil contains 100 mg of CBD. Then you could say that the CBD content in percentage is 2%.
Getting the right dosage
The most important thing when it comes to CBD oils is that you get the right dosage, and for that, you need to know the right number of drops to take. Again, this is much easier when the CBD oil you buy includes information on how many milligrams of CBD is present in the entire bottle. For instance, if your 30 ml of CBD oil has 150 milligrams of CBD, then you would need around four drops of CBD oil to get 1 milligram of CBD into your body.
Here’s what you should know: one drop contains 0.05 milliliters of the liquid. So the 30 ml bottle would have 600 drops. That 600 drops would have 150 milligrams of CBD in it. So each drop would have 0.25 mg of CBD. So to get 1 mg of CBD, you need four drops.
Here are the steps:
- Get the total volume of the bottle (ml): 30 ml
- Divide this by 0.05 ml (number of ml per drop to get the total number of drops in the bottle: 30 ml ÷ 0.05 ml = 600 drops
- Total number of drops in every bottle: 600 drops
- Divide the total milligrams of CBD (mg) by the total number of drops to get the CBD content of each drop (mg): 150 milligrams ÷ 600 drops = 0.25 mg
- Divide the dosage required (mg) by this number: 1 mg / 0.25 mg = 4 drops
The good news is that there are online calculators that can help you know the right dosage.
How to choose the best CBD oils
If you are looking for the CBD oils out there, you should check for the quality of the oil, and the reputation of the company that manufacturers it. There are several retailers that sell fake CBD oils, so reputation is very important. Price should be a secondary issue. In fact, if you are using CBD oil to treat certain conditions, the price should come later in your list of considerations.
As you can see here, it is not how big the bottle of CBD oil or how big the CBD product is, but the actual amount of CBD it contains that matters. You can have a big 1 liter bottle of CBD oil and yet, if it contains only a milligram of CBD, you would probably need to ingest the entire bottle before getting the dosage you want. That can make you sick, really sick.
There are several CBD oils that you can try. For instance, Lazarus Naturals has affordable CBD oils that sell for around four cents per milligram of CBD it contains. There are also full-spectrum CBD oils from CBDistillery that costs 5 cents per milligram and tastes really good. Then you have the THC-free version at Kat’s Naturals, so you do not have to worry about taking and failing a drug test.
Remember that these are just general recommendations. There are CBD oils and CBD products that are especially formulated for anxiety, pain relief, and a host of other diseases and conditions that are helped by CBD.
Lastly, if you are not sure about anything regarding the CBD product you are purchasing, such as the CBD content or the correct amount of dosage, you should always ask a reputable seller for clarifications.
