The legal cannabis industry in Switzerland has been flourishing in the last few months and now it’s taking another big step. As of July 24th, customers can buy the first tobacco-and-hemp cigarettes online or from the local supermarket.
The CBD-cigarettes are produced by the Heimat factory, located on Lake Constance in the canton of St Gallen. The low level of THC in the cigarettes won’t get you high, but the cannabidiol substance is valued for its medicinal qualities and is useful for relieving pain, inflammation, depression and anxiety, epilepsy, or other health issues.
The Swiss changed their laws in 2011 to legalize recreational low-potency cannabis and let adults buy and use cannabis and its derivatives that contain up to 1% THC – the active compound that gets you high. The legal limit in most European countries is up to 0.2% THC.
The growing demand for cannabis-related products is making more manufacturers switch to the legal hemp industry. Local supermarkets already sell a variety of cannabis products, like tea, beer, and oil with the sales of legal cannabis in the country amounting to 100 million Swiss francs ($103.6 million).
