A 12 year-old boy is making history in Northern Ireland by uniting all major political parties in the support of legalization of medicinal cannabis.
Representatives from all political parties have pledged to join the young Billy Caldwell at a protest in front of the Parliament (Stormont) on the 10th October and vote in favour of passing the so called “Billy’s Law”.
The legislation will allow the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes in Northern Ireland, but recreation use will remain prohibited.
“The bill is only for medical use. A lot of people are still very wary about cannabis, it’s been difficult to get them on board this far.”, said Charlotte Caldwell, Billy’s mother and medical cannabis advocate.
Charlotte believes that the unity among the political factions is a great achievement and hopes the bill to be accepted by the end of the year.
Billy was the first person in the UK to be prescribed with medicinal marijuana on the NHS. The little boy suffers from incurable intractable and status epilepsy, but the use of cannabis oil have had multiple positive effects on his condition.
