The United States Food and Drug Administration will be holding a public hearing in order to gather information on cannabis-derived compounds. This is the first time the agency is holding a hearing on the matter.
The hearing, which is slated for May 31, will help the FDA gain scientific data and information about functions that relate to cannabis products and cannabis-derived compounds, including safety, manufacturing, marketing, product quality, labeling, and sale.
While requests to make oral presentations and comments at the hearing were accepted only until May 10, written or electronic comments will be accepted until July 2.
This move comes after the U.S. federal government’s legalization of hemp via the Farm Bill late last year.
After the public hearing, the agency’s next steps will be of consequence to cannabis investors and customers, who have stayed away from cannabis products due to the lack of scientific data regarding the effects of the drug.
